Theresa’s career progression reflects her leadership capability and her commitment to serve the Capital Region though community action and by tirelessly helping closely held businesses take root, grow, solve problems and succeed. Her law practice focuses on the areas of corporate law, non-profit law and commercial real estate law. Her clients are small to medium size companies, real estate developers, banking institutions and economic development entities, whom she counsels in the areas of business formation and expansion, merger/acquisition transactions, contract negotiation, leasing, property purchases, financing and not-for-profit corporate regulatory compliance.
Previous Experience
Prior to her work with Pierro, Connor & Strauss, Ms. Skaine formed Skaine & Associates LLC, a certified WBE firm specializing in business and development law. She was also previously a member of the law firm Lemery Greisler LLC, where she acted as managing member from September 2009 to April 2014. There she played an instrumental role in the development of several large-scale projects in the Capital Region, including the Luther Forest Technology Campus and the Great Escape Indoor Water Park.
Committed to the Community
When it comes to community involvement and volunteer participation, Theresa Skaine is fully devoted to service in the Capital District. She has worked extensively with the Saratoga Hospital board, joining in 2011 and serving on the executive committee since 2014. Ms. Skaine was then elected chairperson of the Saratoga Hospital Board of Trustees in 2019, at a time of expansion for the Hospital which included controversial community projects. Her Chair position continued through the Pandemic, which required a reassessment of the priorities of the Hospital, the role of the board and the ability of the Hospital to meet community need.
Theresa is a member of the Albany Medical Health System Board, joining a group of Capital Region leaders to steer the System’s priorities during a time of immense growth.
Theresa is a member of the New York State Bar Association’s Women in Law Section (“WILS”). As a member of this group, Theresa has served as a critical voice to advance women in the legal profession and all women under the law.
Theresa has also served on the boards of the Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce, Saratoga Regional YMCA, The Wesley Foundation, Wellspring f/k/a Domestic Violence Rape Crisis Services and Wesley Health Care Center, taking leadership positions in many of these board roles, including chairing the DVRC and Wesley Foundation boards. She is also a former mentor for Albany Law School’s program for female law students which partnered students with practicing attorneys.
Theresa’s volunteer work directly impacts communities on a consistent basis as can be seen by her board and bar association service. She has additionally provided pro bono legal services to charities such as Taylor’s Heroes, an organization focused on combatting teen obesity. Theresa formed this charitable organization and served on its board for several years.
